Analysis

1. For my first story about the torture chambers in Syria there was a lot of cross referencing occurring between other media vehicles. Whether it was a newspaper, blog, or social media, there were always links to other websites giving us more information. This was good because I felt that whoever was really interested in the subject could look further into it, rather than just reading that one article. In my second cycle there was not much conjunction with other media channels, I think that is because this was mostly a local news story. I noticed that if something is a national news story, who find a lot more information on the topic, and can cross-reference between different channels. I think this makes an impact on whoever is locally near where the story is occurring, in this case Ohio. For my last story, there was again no linking to other media. This story was not as big as other stories, and did have much cross-referencing.

2. For the news story in Syria, all of the media vehicles had the same information. I think the most effective channel was the TV broadcast and the news article. With the TV broadcast you get to see and hear the interviews between the prisoners, so you get a better insight into what is happening. With the newspaper article, you get a lot of information, more than any of the other vehicles. The least effective was the blog, because it just gave you the main points and did not give much details. All of the media vehicles did site the Humans Rights Watch organization which gave them a lot of credibility. For the story on the missing mother in Ohio the media vehicles were very good on updating their information. Some were faster than others (the newspaper and blog was the best, the broadcast was the least). It did not necessarily convey differently, it was more of which one put out the information faster. Their
stories were supported by the local police and interviews with family. In my third cycle the best media vehicle was the blog, because it is a science magazine, so I found it to be most reliable as well as had the best information. The TV broadcast was not very effective on giving out the information, it was very short and brief.

3. In the first story the one multi-media vehicle I used was CNN for my TV broadcast section. They convey they message to inform everyone on what is secretly happening in the Syrian jails. I'm not sure how this story was presented on actual TV but it seemed like it would be the same. In my second story I did not use any multi-media channels. In my third cycle I used NBC and BBC which are both cable news stations and used their online sites. BBC's news article probably goes into a lot more detail rather than the actual TV broadcast that would be live. They do not give all of the information as there is on the website. NBC has a very short online broadcast that is only a minute long, and it definitely does not go deep into the subject as many of the other media vehicles that I used in this story.

4. With citizen journalism you get a broader perspective on what other think about a particular subject. I think it impacts the audience because it makes them think more about it and see who shares their opinion or who thinks the opposite. In other cases, where you see live footage that somebody took, who feel like you yourself are really in the moment; like when you see videos that people took of the 9/11 attacks or Hurricane Katrina. These things give you more of an impact rather than seeing professional footage. This could raise issues of ethics because sometimes people take things to far, but at the same time people have the right to do and say what they want; even though it happens that certain people can get hurt in the process.

Reporting And Frequency Cycle Three: Glacier Breaks Off of Greenland

1. Newspaper
BBC News' Jason Palmer gives an article on July 19, 2012 about whether the glacier that broke off of Greenland is a serious matter. The pattern of the calving of glaciers has been something long watched by scientists. The detachment of the Petermann Glacier is not surprising for them, as it is most likely a result of global warming.
Update 1: There are no updates on this story yet, it still gives us all the same information as before but what I do notice is that they put in a few more pictures of the glacier.

2. TV Broadcast
Brian Wilson reports for NBC and gives us the basic information about the glacier breaking off. It is a very short story and does not go into very much detail about he subject.
Update 1: There are no new updates for this story. There is only that one broadcast about the Peterman. Glacier.

3. Blog
Discover Magazine's Phil Plait gave us a blog post giving us details on the ice burg. This event has happened before in 2010, and that chunk of ice was massive, twice the size of Manhattan Island of New York City. This more recent glacier is half that size, but don't kid yourself, that is still huge. Plait says they cannot be sure on whether this event happened to global warming, since glacier calving happens all the time, but it looks like the culprit. There are some tell-tale signs that it is; June 2012 was one of the hottest months since records have been kept. In addition it had the highest land and ocean average surface temperatures in the northern hemisphere in recorded history. All this information looks mighty suspicious, and seems like we can blame the warming of the earth.
Update 1: There are also no updates on the blog. The only thing being updated on the page are the comments people are leaving behind.

4. Social Media
Plenty of bloggers on Tumblr are posting about the glacier. There are a lot of pictures of the ice burg that were taken from the NASA satellite, as well as information about global warming. There are also non related pictures of Greenland, still pretty to look at though.
Update 1: People are still posting pictures and the news story on their blogs. One post has 32 reblogs, which is the highest out of all the posts so far.

Reporting and Frequency Cycle Two: Search For Missing Ohio Mother

1. Newspaper
Mansfield News Journal, an online newspaper, posted this story July 10, 2012 at 6:44 AM reporting about how a woman named Lynn Jackenheimer, 33 and a mother of two, is missing after a vacation with her kids. It seems like the number one suspect is ex-boyfriend Nathan Summerfield. It's been said that Summerfield's brother called the police telling the detective that Summerfield said he strangled Lynn and buried her under brush. Jackenheimer is still no where to be found, but the search for her and Summerfield is under way.
Update 1: At 1:11 PM a new article is posted on the website stating that this investigation is facing complications. Deputy's are facing problems looking for Lynn because they have such a big radius to search, approximately 15 miles. The police and search party are doing what they can, but with so little information on where her whereabouts are, it is become increasingly difficult. Summerfield still remains at large
Update 2: On July 11 at 9:37 AM, a report is made that Ashland business's are offering more than $7000 in rewards for information concerning Jackenheimer's or Summerfields whereabouts.
Update 3: The search would have to resume until Thursday due to bad weather. Locals are being encouraged to donate as well as help with the search.
Update 4: On July 12 the search started up again, and friends and family of Jackenheimer went up to help with the investigation. New information about the couples relationship surfaced as well, and it shows that the two did not have a very good past. In 2010, Summerfield was convicted of domestic violence for an incident involving Jackenhiemer. He received a suspended 60 day jail sentence and was placed on a year of extensive probation. That wasn't he is first brush with the law. He was issued criminal summonses in two other cases related to previous girlfriend. The first case dates to 2004, when he was a senior in high school.
Update 5: On July 15, Mansfield News gives us some more interesting news with the issuing of a statement that a body has been found in North Carolina where the search was being pursued. The body was found by an unidentified man who called 9-1-1 reporting that he found a body in a bag, and it may be the missing girl from Ashland. An autopsy has to be conducted because the body is so badly decomposed. No word yet on if it is Jackenheimer.
Update 6: It's been confirmed that the body found was indeed Lynn Jackenheimer. The cause of death has not yet been determined. The focus of the investigation now turns to Nathan Summerield.
Update 7: On the 18th we get a lead in the case; Summerfield has been spotted in Columbus. A woman called 9-1-1 reporting that he was seen near her apartments. He is still at large, but now the police have something to go off of.
Update 8: The autopsy reports came in and the body is indeed Jackenheimer. The cause of death was strangulation and stab wounds.

2. TV Broadcast
Lydia Espara is reporting live from North Carolina, where Lynn Jackenheimer was last seen. Some of the local people from Ashland were interviews, and we get to hear Summerfields' brothers 911 call. They give us the basic information on the case.
Update 1: On a follow up broadcast Jen Picciano reports that there is now reward money and her family is going up to North Carolina to help find their missing loved one. A search warrant has been issued for Summerfield's arrest, as he is the only person of interest.
Update 2: On July 14 there is another broadcast about the body that had been found. We get to hear the 9-1-1 call, footage of people searching, as well as interviews from the family.
Update 3: Two days later we get a news story about how the body that has been discovered in Jackenheimer. We get to see the reaction of Ashalnd citizens, most are of course upset, but are somewhat glad that her body was finally found. We also see the scene of of where the body was found, although we do not get to see it very clearly since it is taped off.

3. Blog
The blog Mail Online also reported this news story on July 10 at 11:34. This post is by Lydia Warren and she writes about how Summerfield is currently trying to be tracked down after his brother reported him to the police. This blog post gives details  about the vacation they spent together before Lynn disappeared, and also how the children are involved in this case.
Update 1: On July 13 a new report is out on the blog giving us new information that Jackenheimer was hesitant to go on vacation with Summerfield in the first place; this information was given by Alex Taylor, a friend on Lynn. The children were questioned but offered very little clues in what happened to their mother. The kids were dropped off by Summerfield at a relatives, then he sped off and was not seen again.
Update 2: This blog also makes a report on the body that had been found. This gives us something that i had not heard on the other vehicles, in which the person who discovered the body was a construction worker and that the body was found 30 minuets from where the couple had been staying in North Carolina.
Update 3: There is another update on the 16th and it gives us the same basic information; that the body was identified as Lynn and the search for Summerfield is still at large.

4. Social Media
When you search "Lynn Jackenheimer" on Twitter you see tweets from various people. Some are from news channels; local and national, news anchors, and people who just want to spread the word. People are giving links to news articles on the subjects and giving updates.
Update 1: Between July 10 and 11 you see many updates from news organizations and locals posting the newest information about what is happening with the current investigation.
Update 2: There aren't many tweets between the 11th and the 13th but on July 14 the tweets are giving more updates on how the search is at a standstill due to bad weather, forcing investigators to stop.
Update 3:  Once the body was found, plenty of tweets from news stations were giving us information on this update.
Update 4: On the 17th there are tweets about a press conference that would be occurring, and it gives us the time and where it will be held. We also see a few more tweets from Ashland locals who are sending their best wishes to Jackenheimers family and friends.

Reporting and Frequency Cycle One: Syria Torture Centers Revealed

1. Newspaper
The Huffington Post posted this online on July 3, 2012 at 8:12 AM. This article goes into an in-depth look on how Syria has many locations in which people are detained and tortured. They are getting all their information from the Human Rights Watch.
Update 1: Since the initial posting of the article, there have been no updates. Although the Huffington Post does not have any updates on the subject, the Human Rights Watch, which is where all the information is from, does give you fresh news on the matter. There is a link on the Huffington Post that takes you to their website, and from there you can access all the information you might need; such as where the torture centers are located and torture methods used.

2. TV Broadcast
CNN made this report on July 3, 2012 at 11:13 AM. Ivan Watson is reporting and in this broadcast they interview Ole Solvang who is a Human Rights Watch researcher, as well as prisoners who were tortured. We find out exactly what goes down in these torture centers, and what the Human Rights Watch is trying to do to stop it.
Update 1: As with the newspaper, there are no updates. Once again there is a link to the Humans Rights Watch page.

3. Blog
Robert Mackey from the New York Times made a blog post on July 3, 2012 at 2:31 PM about the centers giving us videos about the torture centers and links to the names of the officials who are supposed to be in charge of these crimes.
Update 1: When I scrolled down to see the related posts to this article I see he has other posts about torture in Syria. One was from March 23, 2012; although this technically is not an update it still is a related subject. This post explains the initial thought that their is torture centers out in Syria and that forces are trying to crackdown on them. This post was really informational because it gave us tons of videos of people being tortured, which showed us evidence that this was actually happening. It also showed us tweets of Syrian activists and what they are doing in response to these torture centers.
Update 2: I found another blog post from Mackey, but this time it goes even further back, all the way to March 6, 2012. This is when the initial idea of torture in Syria started happening; it didn't occur in the specialized centers, but in state un medical facilities. Patients were shackled to beds, had their bones broken, flogged, among other disturbing things. We see this on video, which was smuggled out of Syria from a French photographer.

4. Social Media
The video is from YouTube and was posted by the Human Rights Watch. In this video we here from torture victims, how they were tortured, and what these torture centers looked like on the inside. It was posted on July 2, 2012.
Update 1: The same video has posted in other languages. One is an arabic language (I can't be too sure), while the other is in Russian. I think its really good that this organization is posting this video in other languages because it spreads the word a lot better, which is their goal in order to have a better chance to stop the government run torture centers. The video in English is now up to 98,048 views.
